Virtual world

The virtual world is a graphically oriented environment (usually in 3D) that simulates the real world with a certain precision and specified scope. The community of users taking forms of avatars in the virtual world is built around this environment. For the training purpose virtual worlds can be used to create behavior scenarios (e.g. learning foreign languages, soft skills training, etc.) and observe the way they function in an environment that is very close to reality.

Worth to know

  • It's an excellent environment for remote collaboration, sharing experiences, design learning, project management education, building, and programming. The phenomena of immersion and telepresence (awareness of the presence of other people online) make the user perceive this world as real and become more engaged.

  • Virtual Worlds can be used for the gamification of learning (users of such an environment might feel as though they are in a computer game world) and for the faster, less expensive development of educational games.

  • Machinima (virtual reality cinema) is a technique of creating animated films in 3D virtual environments. The films are recorded in real-time, rather than being drawn frame by frame like traditional animations.

  • There is a lot of software to immerse learners in virtual worlds for teamwork. One can even prepare a virtual conference.
